Meet Dr. Chris Mckechnie

Discovering Chiropractic

Dr. Chris MckechnieDr. Chris studied Exercise Science at Liberty University with the intention of becoming a personal trainer. After graduating, he moved to Wilmington, where he suffered a serious back injury. A friend suggested chiropractic, so he gave it a try and was amazed by the results.

He realized that in combining his exercise science background with chiropractic, he would be able to help people on a much deeper level than he could as a trainer. His chiropractor encouraged him and recommended his own alma mater, Logan College of Chiropractic.

Expanding His Focus

Dr. Chris did his internship at a rehab-oriented practice, and that’s where he learned how effective dry needling can be in rehab and injury care. He pursued advanced training and became certified in dry needling, dynamic neuromuscular stabilization (DNS) training and selective functional movement assessment (SFMA). He also obtained a master’s degree in nutrition and human performance and his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Logan in 2020.

Helping patients understand the “why” of our care is important to Dr. Chris. Many patients don’t follow through with rehab or PT in other places because they’re just told to do some exercises, with no explanation. Educating patients so they can see the connection between what’s going on with their body and our approach to care motivates them to commit to their self-care.

Coming Back

At chiropractic college, he met Dr. Brandy and the two eventually got married. When it came time to decide where to settle down and build a practice, they considered Wilmington because Dr. Chris loved the area. They ultimately decided on Leland because it felt like the perfect place for a young couple to build a life and a practice together.

In His Spare Time

When he’s not at the office, Dr. Chris enjoys working out at the gym. He also loves exploring new restaurants and breweries with Dr. Brandy and of course, playing with their two cats and one dog.
